Beam Me Up - Cazzette

The Experience:
Real happiness. Not the fake stuff you get in this dark world. Something that can take you higher than you've ever been. A place where no one has to be broken-hearted. "Somewhere there's such a place"... but not in this song. Beam Me Up is about weed.

Music Video:
Steering clear of the drug theme in the lyrics, the music video is basically eye candy to accompany the song's great beat. Eye candy, except for one part where the cassettes are compared to the cross. They are the "new religion." That's the part where the video rings false. Happiness without effort? Love without suffering? On the surface it sounds awesome... but is it real?

My Take:
For a song about getting higher than a supernova and kissing the sun (smoking weed) Beam Me Up does get one thing right. We all want to be happy. There has to be a place where no one's broken-hearted.
But selfishness - never looking down - isn't that place. In the real world, there is no free high. Happiness always means effort, and often includes sacrifice.

Ask Yourself:
Am I happy? Do I try to be happy by never "looking down", or is the effort of reaching out to others what actually makes me happy?

LYRICS:

Tonight we'll run away
Speeding faster than a midnight train
Somewhere there's such a place
Where the stars come out to light your face
We'll leave behind a world in darkness
Go where no one's broken-hearted
Take off without a trace
Neon angels, up, up and away

Diamond clouds
I think we're getting closer
Don't stop now
Off the ground
Higher than a supernova
Don't look down [x4]

Beam me up [x4]

Diamond clouds
I think we're getting closer
Don't stop now
Off the ground
Higher than a supernova
Don't look down [x2]

After we kiss the sun
We can burn our names into the sky
Feel my electric touch
Taste my supersonic lullaby

Diamond clouds
I think we're getting closer
Don't stop now
Off the ground
Higher than a supernova
Don't look down [x4]

Beam me up [x4]

Diamond clouds
I think we're getting closer
Don't stop now
Off the ground
Higher than a supernova
Don't look down [x2]

Don't look down
