Wake Me Up - Avicii

Experience: Too young to understand? Caught up in a dream? Well, that's fine by me. Because my dream is better than what the world has to offer...

The Video: The Lyric video: wide open landscapes - a world with no limits and no fences - says visually what Aloe Blacc sings in the lyrics: his dreams are way better than the real world. The Music video: the protagonist has something to offer that the world around her can't understand. She's a misfit... until she finds what she's been looking for. The downside? In the video she just makes a run for it, instead of trying to share her dream (in this case, Avicii) with everyone else.

My Take: Teens and young adults like Avicii himself are dreamers... and no one can blame them for preferring the greatness of their dreams to the drab and often cruel reality of the "real" world. But they have one big advantage. If they hold on to those dreams and refuse to "wake up", they get a shot at making them come true.

Ask Yourself:
Have you given up on finding yourself? On your dreams? Or are you ready to wake the world up to something bigger and better?

LYRICS:

Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can't tell where the journey will end
But I know where it starts?
They tell me I'm too young to understand
They say I'm caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes
Well that's fine by me

So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know? I was lost
[x2]
I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
I hope I get the chance to travel the world
And I don't have any plans
I wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life's a game made for everyone
And love is a prize

So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know I was lost
[x2]

I didn't know I was lost
I didn't know I was lost
I didn't know I was lost
I didn't know I was lost
