Where We Came From - Phillip Phillips
The Experience:
Is hating stronger than loving? Phillip sings about how hate tore love apart. Words we said in anger still echo in my brain. Staring at the moon shows Phillip how tiny he is, how insignificant hating is. Empty space’s immensity reminds us where we came from. Before the stars, only love matters. Sure, to bring it back to how it was before won’t be easy. But despite storm and all the dust, Phillip urges, don’t let it go. Love can return. Love is stronger than hate.
My Take:
Some people think that if you
ever fight with someone you love, it’s over. Phillip thinks differently. Even
after words said in anger, we can ignite the memory in between us again. I
like how Phillip does whatever it takes to love again. "Blow it up!” “Climb!” “Swim!” “Take out these walls with a cannonball!” With that much effort, not only does forgiveness heal broken love, but the
struggle to forgive actually increases love.
Ask Yourself:
Do I believe in fighting more than in forgiveness? Is there anyone I still haven’t yet forgiven? How hard will I climb to love that person again?

LYRICS:
I must have used up all my
wishes yesterday
'Cause the words we said in anger still echo in my brain
Alone through the darkness in this cave
I wanna hear you whisper, hang on every word you say
Climb the mountain, swim for shore
Bring it back to how it was before
Take it out, blow it up
Ignite the memory in between us
Through the storm and all the dust
Take out these walls with a cannonball
But don't let it go, don't give up the ghost
We're all staring at the moon and the sun
Just trying to remember where we came from
I connect the stars to build a map to you
In the empty space we're dreaming
But we still know the truth
Climb the mountain, swim for shore
Bring it back to how it was before
Take it out, blow it up
Ignite the memory in between us
Through the storm and all the dust
Take it out these walls with a cannonball
But don't let it go, don't give up the ghost
We're all staring at the moon and the sun
Just trying to remember where we came from
Ooohhhh ooohhhh ooohhhh ooohhhh
Ooohhhh ooohhhh ooohhhh ooohhhh
So climb the mountain, swim for shore
Bring it back to how it was before
Take it out, blow it up
Ignite the memory in between us
Through the storm and all the dust
Take it out these walls with a cannonball
But don't let it go, don't give up the ghost
We're all staring at the moon and the sun
Just trying to remember where we came from
Just trying to remember where we came from
Don't let it go, don't give up the ghost
We're all staring at the moon and the sun
Just trying to remember where we came from
