Ribs - Lorde

The Experience: It drives you crazy getting old. I'm half-way kid, half-way adult. Sometimes I don't know who or where I want to be. Yes, sweet-16, but this dream isn't feeling sweet. At least I have you. You're the only friend I need, Sharing beds like little kids, We'll laugh til our ribs get tired...

The Music Video: Still waiting.

The Meaning of Ribs is the passage from childhood, where mom and dad were always with me to now when my mom and dad let me stay home. I should feel sweet, but I'm not feeling sweet, in fact, I've never felt more alone. I should be ashamed to want my parents still, but I don't want this alone - it drives me crazy.
Eventually, we have to leave our parents behind somehow. The first sense might be feeling alone. The second is reaching out for and finding the only friend I need. With my friend I can be happy like little kids again, talking, sharing and laughing till our ribs get tired. Friends will never let us feel alone. They make us able to laugh again.

Ask Yourself: Does the fact I'm getting older scare me? Do I have someone to tell my fears to?

LYRICS:

The drink you spilled all over me
Lover's spit left on repeat
My mom and dad let me stay home
It drives you crazy, getting old

We can talk it so good
We can make it so divine
We can talk it good, how you wish it would be all the time

The drink you spilled all over me
Lover's spit left on repeat
My mom and dad let me stay home
It drives you crazy, getting old

The drink you spilled all over me
Lover's spit left on repeat
My mom and dad let me stay home
It drives you crazy, getting old

This dream isn't feeling sweet
We're reeling through the midnight streets
And I've never felt more alone
It feels so scary getting old

We can talk it so good
We can make it so divine
We can talk it good, how you wish it would be all the time

This dream isn't feeling sweet
We're reeling through the midnight streets
And I've never felt more alone
It feels so scary getting old

This dream isn't feeling sweet
We're reeling through the midnight streets
And I've never felt more alone
It feels so scary getting old

You're the only friend I need
Sharing beds like little kids
We'll laugh til our ribs get tired
That I will never be enough

You're the only friend I need
Sharing beds like little kids
We'll laugh til our ribs get tired
That I will never be enough...
