La La La - Naughty Boy ft. Sam Smith

www.last.fmby Simon Cleary

The Experience: Naughty Boy's Arabic sound joins with childhood simplicity to block out when other people's hiss with venom in their words. Ignore them. Sing La la la.

Video: (Against claims that the kid's the son of the devil...) A re-make of a Bolivian legend, where a deaf kid escapes his home, and frees people as he wanders away. To take one example of the video's "re-contextualized" legend: the story has the boy  delivering a man from stoning and healing his heart, the video to freeing him from dust and ignored by others and buying a new heart as if it were an ice-cream. The ending only makes sense if you know the legend: the deaf boy faces off against a demon of the mines called 'El Tío'  (the line your new Messiah) who controls people with his words. The deaf boy is immune to the demon... and the video leaves who won uncertain. I'm rooting for the boy.

The meaning of Naughty Boy La La La is finding yourself no matter what others call you. Naughty Boy tells his haters, "When you speak your venom, keep it shut, I hate it. Your speech, it's tiring." Take the Bolivian legend: evil words mean serving the word-demon 'El Tío.' Naughty Boy goes back inside himself, find a way to block it, covering my ears like a kid, singing (the infectious) La La La. We all need a little silence (or at least blocking the world out with La la la) to find ourselves. Deep inside, there's the strength to go on.

Ask Yourself: Do I let others words hurt me? Do I listen to myself

LYRICS:
La la, la la la la la na na na na na,
La la na na, la la la la la na na na na na

Hush, don't speak
When you spit your venom, keep it shut I hate it
When you hiss and preach
About your new Messiah 'cause your theories catch fire

I can't find your silver lining
I don't mean to judge
But when you read your speech, it's tiring
Enough is enough

I'm covering my ears like a kid
When your words mean nothing, I go la la la
I'm turning up the volume when you speak
'Cause if my heart can't stop it,
I find a way to block it, I go
La la, la la la la la na na na na na
La la na na, la la la la la na na na na na,
I find a way to block it, I go
La la na na, la la la la la na na na na na [2x]

If our love is running out of time
I won't count the hours, rather be a coward
When our worlds collide
I'm gonna drown you out before I lose my mind

I can't find your silver lining
I don't mean to judge
But when you read your speech, it's tiring
Enough is enough

I'm covering my ears like a kid
When your words mean nothing, I go la la la
I'm turning up the volume when you speak
'Cause if my heart can't stop it,
I find a way to block it, I go
La la, la la la la la na na na na na
La la na na, la la la la la na na na na na,
I find a way to block it, I go
La la, la la la la la na na na na na
La la na na, la la la la la na na na na na,
I find a way to block it, oh
La la, la la la la la na na na na na
La la na na, la la la la la na na na na na,
I find a way to block it, I go
La la na na, la la la la la na na na na na,
La la na na, la la la la la na na na na na,

I'm covering my ears like a kid
When your words mean nothing, I go la la la
I'm turning up the volume when you speak
'Cause if my heart can't stop it,
I find a way to block it, I go

I'm covering my ears like a kid
When your words mean nothing, I go la la la
I'm turning up the volume when you speak
'Cause if my heart can't stop it,
I find a way to block it, I go
La la, la la la la la na na na na na
La la na na, la la la la la na na na na na
La la na na, la la la la la na na na na na
La la na na, la la la la la na na na na na
