Happy Little Pill - Troye Silvan

The Experience: Australian actor-singer Troye Sivan gives us a song about the bleakness of a life with bodyguards, Gucci, cocaine and dollar bills. In his spare time, his videos have had a sarcastic note. Let's hope he's critiquing society, and not singing us about the way he lives. Unfortunately, it describes other stars' lives all too truly.

Official Video:  Teens appear in the world of buying happy with what this world says makes us happy: Troye's in a rich appartment, but he's so bored after channel-surfing he lies back to watch the ceiling fan spin... another guy tries to enjoy sports on an empty field, but it's boring being alone... two teens in a passionate hot tub, but afterwards, they're just watching traffic from a bridge, bored as the others. The meaning of the Happy Little Pill video is a statement: none of these actions, none of these things, make us happy. Happiness can't be 'done' or 'bought'. You ARE happy or you aren't. The owl, symbol of wisdom, watches the different scenes and asks us: do you know what it takes to be happy?

The meaning of Happy Little Pill is what happens when you're "buying 'happy' from shopping carts." Troye lists the things we can buy: cocaine, tight skin, bodyguards... This is the 'happy' list of today's world. The result is devastatingly described by Troye: "In the crowd, alone... glazed eyes, empty hearts... nothing but time to kill, sipping life from bottles..." Troye's only escape is in a pill to make him happy, to "take me away." This lifestyle doesn't make anyone happy.

Ask yourself: If you/anyone needs a pill to be happy... what will really make you happy?

LYRICS:
In the crowd, alone
And every second passing,
Reminds me I’m not home
Bright lights and city sounds
Are ringing like a drone,
Unknown, unknown

Oh glazed eyes, empty hearts
Buying happy from shopping carts
Nothing but time to kill,
Sipping life from bottles
Tight skin, bodyguards,
Gucci down the boulevard,
Cocaine, dollar bills and

My happy little pill
Take me away
Dry my eyes
Bring colour to my skies
My sweet little pill
Take my hunger
Light within
Numb my skin

Like a rock, I float
Sweat and conversations,
Seep into my bones
Four walls are not enough,
I’ll take a dip into the
Unknown, unknown

Oh glazed eyes, empty hearts
Buying happy from shopping carts
Nothing but time to kill,
sipping life from bottles
Tight skin, bodyguards,
Gucci down the boulevard,
Cocaine, dollar bills and...

My happy little pill
Take me away
Dry my eyes
Bring colour to my skies
My sweet little pill
Take my hunger
Light within
Numb my skin

Glazed eyes, empty hearts
Buying happy from shopping carts
Nothing but time to kill,
sipping life from bottles
Tight skin, bodyguards,
Gucci down the boulevard,
Cocaine, dollar bills and...
