Ordinary Human - OneRepublic

The Experience: I’m just an ordinary human but I don’t feel so ordinary today. Ordinary? Ashamed? Ordinary is the rule, not the exception. And that means ordinary is real... a lot more real than the picture-perfect life some of us wish we had...

Music Video: Still waiting for the music video, and The Giver's August 15th cinema release. But once you've seen the trailer, you realize that Ordinary Human is a perfect song for a movie about rediscovering just how extraordinary ordinary can be.

Meaning of Ordinary Human: As in the case of every other well crafted soundtrack song, the plot of The Giver is key to understanding everything that Ordinary Human wants to say. In the movie, Jonas lives in a controlled, emotionless society where his sudden ascension to ordinary human gives him extraordinary power - today I felt a switch in my vein... just an ordinary human but I don’t feel so typical today. And back in the real world where ordinary people like us listen to OneRepublic's single, the lesson is still valid. Sometimes we get so used to the "extraordinary" that movies, commercials and top models are constantly bombarding us with, that we forget how powerful ordinary really is. Ordinary is real.

Ask Yourself: Are you ordinary? Does that mean you can't be a hero? Can't make a difference? Can't be happy?

LYRICS:

Today I felt a switch in my vein
Today I felt a switch in my vein
Used to be in shadow
Now a shadow scream my name
And in the daylight I could swear
We’re the same

I’m just an ordinary human
But I never quit
I’m just an ordinary human
But I don’t feel so ordinary today

I’m just a picture perfect nothing
Sometimes I never care
I’ll be a picture perfect human
Before the sun comes down today

Just an ordinary human
But I don’t feel so typical today

I’m just an ordinary human

I’m just an ordinary human
