Medicine - The 1975

The Experience: Singing for the Drive movie soundtrack, the 1975 bring us a song about hoping in love as my medicine, while at the same time saying Bye-bye. At their own confession, The 1975 fuse hope and failure into one song, building on their own experiences.

The meaning of Medicine is dreaming about love. "In case you're my medicine" means love can cure us all of our blues. So the lyrics jump to say "I want to marry you." Yet the dreamt-for love won't stick. "Bye-bye."
The 1975 stated Medicine is one of their more introspective songs. The very title underlines the fact that we're not complete alone. Our hearts are wounded, and we need love to cure them.
The pain trying to love, then losing love, of saying "Bye-bye" to the hope of love is less painful than the anasthesia of keeping our hearts closed against love.

Ask yourself: What is my "medicine"? What are the wounds I need cured?

LYRICS:
I find it hard to say bye-bye
Even it'll stay if you and I
I find it hard to say bye-bye
Even it’ll stay if you and I
And how can I refuse?
Can you leave me in the blues?
Ever since you came into my life

In case you’re my medicine
(Yeah, you’re medicine)
Yeah, you’re medicine
(You’re medicine)

I, I wanna marry you
Said I, I adore you
And that’s all I have to say
Bye-bye
And you won’t be here
To stay 'til you're mine

In case you’re my medicine
(Yeah, you’re medicine)
Yeah, you’re medicine
(You’re medicine)

In case you’re my medicine
(Yeah, you’re medicine)
Yeah, you’re medicine
(You’re medicine)
(You’re medicine)
