California (There Is No End To Love) - U2

The Experience: The Edge's distinctive guitar intro melding into Bono's even more distinctive lyrics. U2 brings us to question our sense of fame as in the California lifestyle and our belief in love - There Is No End To Love.

The meaning of California is that There Is No End To Love (its other title)Bono uses California's Santa Barbara as a codename for a lifestyle where everyone's a star. These beginning lyrics paint a world that is shallow, that drags your heart down. But Bono says the shallowness took me where I need to be. He's grown up since he lived the California lifestyle. Stardom wasn't enough to live happy - he tried that and there is no end to grief. A different conviction changed things forever: And all I need to know is, there is no, yeah, there is no end... to love.
Being loved, and loving in return, is what makes life worth living. But sometimes it takes grief and a heart that's down to learn that lesson.

Ask yourself: If you could only choose one, would you prefer to be loved or to be famous?

California
Then we sail into the shallow sea
The wind that drags your heart down
Well, that's what took me where I need to be

Which is here, Alazzurra
Watching you cry like a baby
California
At the dawn you thought would never come
But it did
Like it always does

Whoa, oh, you know
And all I need to know is
There is no, yeah, there is no end
To love

I didn't call you
A risk can scare a thought away
Everyone's a star in our town
It's just your light gets dimmer if you have to stay

Can you imagine in a mirror
Watching yourself cry like a baby
California
The blood orange season brings you to your knees
I've seen for myself, there's no end to grief
That's how I know

Whoa, that's how I know
And why I need to know
If there is no, if there is no end
To love

Whoa, oh, you know
And all I need to know is
There is no, yeah, there is no end
To love

Whoa, oh, you know
And all I need to know is
There is no, yeah, there is no end
To love

Whoa, we come and go
With stolen days you don't get back
Stolen days are just enough
