Salted Wound - Sia (from Fifty Shades of Grey)

The Experience: While the lyrics are about being a good man, and holding on, Sia's voice tells a different story. Salted Wound begins on a melancholy minor chord, and while the music turns happier half-way through, Sia never sounds happy, though always filled with longing. In the end, Salted Wound's words pretend to be happy while the heart behind it tries to hide its wound.
Official Video: Still waiting.

The meaning of Salted Wound by its title, speaks of a pain made worse by cruelty. Salted Wound's lyrics always speak to the man. (Christian Grey?) The speaker begins as girl (who describes herself  with "lonely float" calling on her lover to take my hand and don't let go) and then becomes another lady, giving him advice. "You'll pull through it, You're safe... Give her every say she needs to hear, Give your heart... she will see you're a good man."
Being a good man, giving your heart and being safe are not really themes common to Mr. Grey. His (literally) sadistic love is about being a controler, giving beatings (not his heart), and being a very unsafe lover.
This is why Salted Wound, like the 'love' story in Fifty Shades of Grey, promises happiness in its words, but the pain in both the title and in Sia's passionate but suffering delivery tell the true story behind the text of both the lyrics and the book.

Ask yourself: Can I tell the difference between the text of a story that pretends to be about love and the reality of suffering behind it?

LYRICS:
Lonely float got in the way
You are the feel, and knew it anyway
Take a chance, it wasn't what you know
Take my hand, and don't let go

Oh, ooh ooooh
You can do it,
Don't break
Yeah, you'll pull through it,
You're safe
Yes, you can do it
Don't break
Yeah, you'll pull through it,
You're safe

Tell her on how you feel,
Give her every say she needs to hear
Give your heart, and say come take it
And she will see you're a good man

Oh, ooh ooooh
You can do it,
Don't break
Yeah, you'll pull through it,
You're safe
Yes, you can do it

Don't break
Yeah, you'll pull through it,
You're safe
Yes, you can do it,
Don't break
Yeah, you'll pull through it,
You're safe
