Joan of Arc - Madonna

www.lastfm.de
The Experience: This sometimes melancholy, sometimes feisty tune tells the painful story of the way that the mass media often treats celebrities like Madonna. Do I see only with these purely critical eyes or am I able to see even deeper to the unique and priceless person beneath?

Music video: Just the album artwork for now...

The Meaning: Joan of Arc tells the story of Madonna's own struggles in a world that loves to highlight only our mistakes. Today the slightest slip ...each time they take the photograph or even a flat out lie can become public knowledge in seconds ...one little lie can ruin my day. Sadly those in the spotlight rarely get credit for the good they are and do. Granted maybe not everything they do is pretty ...I'm not Joan of Arc, but they are far more than just their mistakes, ... not yet. Like every other person on earth Madonna wants to be Joan of Arc, to be a superhero. In the face of the many attacks on her character she needs someone who will stand by her side. Someone who can see the goodness hidden within her.

Ask yourself: Am I able to see and value the goodness in each person?

LYRICS:

Each time they take the photograph
I lose a part I can't get back
I wanna hide
This is the part where I detach

Each time they write a hateful word
Dragging my soul into the dirt
I wanna die
Never admit it but it hurts

I don't wanna talk about it right now
Just hold me while I cry my eyes out
I'm not Joan of Arc,
Not yet
But I'm in the dark,
Yeah

I can't be a superhero right now
Even hearts made out of steel can break down
I'm not Joan of Arc,
Not yet
I'm only human

Anything they did to me, said to me
Doesn't mean a thing 'cause you're here with me now
Even when the world turns its back on me
There could be a war but I'm not going down

One little lie can ruin my day
Words are like weapon—they betray
When I am afraid,
One word of kindness, it can save me

I don't wanna talk about it right now
Just hold me while I cry my eyes out
I'm not Joan of Arc,
Not yet
But I'm in the dark,
Yeah

I can't be a superhero right now
Even hearts made out of steel can break down
I'm not Joan of Arc,
Not yet
I'm only human

Anything they did to me, said to me
Doesn't mean a thing 'cause you're here with me now
Even when the world turns its back on me
There could be a war but I'm not going down

Being destructive isn't brave
They couldn't say it to my face
One day I won't care
But for the moment I'm not there

I'll just close my eyes and let you catch me now

I don't wanna talk about it right now
Just hold me while I cry my eyes out
I'm not Joan of Arc,
Not yet
But I'm in the dark,
Oh, yeah

I can't be a superhero right now
Even hearts made out of steel can break down
I'm not Joan of Arc,
Not yet
I'm only human

Anything they did to me, said to me
Doesn't mean a thing 'cause you're here with me now
Even when the world turns its back on me
There could be a war but I'm not going down

Anything they did to me, said to me
Doesn't mean a thing 'cause you're here with me now
Even when the world turns its back on me
There could be a war but I'm not Joan of Arc.
