Poison - Rita Ora

The Experience: I pick my poison and it's you. Nothing could kill me like you do. You're going straight to my head... and I'm heading straight for the edge... Love is a fall into the unknown, into someone else's hands. But how do you know who is life and who is poison?

Music video: Rita Ora leaves behind her friends and her true love, seduced by a fashion designer's interest in her. The designer is striking, but also deformed - factions of his face are perfect, but one cheek is marred by a twisted scar. She becomes his muse and sex symbol, but forgets who she is - represented by her leather jacket with the caution tape that reads "life is beautiful". The first thing he tells her to do is take it off, leaving that beauty behind. When she finally comes out of it, and tries to flee back to her boyfriend, she discovers that her fashion designer got to him, too. She flees anyway, running through the streets in her beat up leather jacket. But although she found herself again, she's lost her original innocence - the t-shirt. Underneath the jacket she's shirtless in only her bra. The video ends with one of her fashion shots burning away - that bittersweet and false ecstasy didn't last.

The Meaning of Poison: You make me feel like I'm out of my mind. Ohh, but it's alright. Rita Ora tries to walk the fine line between loving and being used. And it's hard. Because love is a little crazy - I could have my sanity for lunch - but crazy can also go bad, when you go too far, too fast, and with the wrong person - I could have my innocence for dinner, pour something in my cup. That divide runs right down the middle of poison. Loving means losing yourself. But that can be a beautiful gift, or a tragic theft.

Ask yourself: Do you have to leave your humanity behind to survive and succeed?

LYRICS:

I could have beer for breakfast
My sanity for lunch
Trying to get over how bad I want you so much
Innocence for dinner
Pour something in my cup
Anything and everything just to fill me up

But nothing ever gets me high like this
I pick my poison and it's you
Nothing could kill me like you do
You're going straight to my head
And I'm heading straight for the edge
I pick my poison and it's you
I pick my poison and it's you

I can feel you whisper
And laying on the floor
And I try to stop but I keep on coming back for more
I'm a lightweight, and I know it
Cause after the first time
I was falling
Falling now

But nothing ever gets me high like this
I pick my poison and it's you
Nothing could kill me like you do
You're going straight to my head
And I'm heading straight for the edge
I pick my poison and it's you
I pick my poison and it's you

This bittersweet ecstasy that you got me in
Falling deep I can't sleep tonight
And you make me feel like I'm out of my mind
But it's alright, it's alright, it's alright
This bittersweet ecstasy that you got me in
Falling deep I can't sleep tonight
And you make me feel like I'm out of my mind
Ohh, but it's alright, it's alright, it's alright

Cause nothing ever gets me high like this
I pick my poison and it's you
Nothing could kill me like you do
You're going straight to my head
And I'm heading straight for the edge
(I'm heading straight for the edge)
I pick my poison and it's you
(Ohh it's you)
I pick my poison and it's you
And it's you
Yeah, yeah, yeah

I pick my poison and it's you
