Fireproof - Against The Current

The Experience: I was better off the night before I met you... But you’re playing with a heart that’s fireproof... Against The Current offers defiant, in your face hope for those struggling to survive betrayal...

Music video: Fireproof switches back and forth between Against The Current performing, and a pitch black beach where they're corpses lie laid out in the sand. That's what betrayal should have done to them. But they're survivors, and instead of staying dead, they've lived to tell about it, and to burn the unwanted baggage of betrayal. They've survived. They don't need to carry it around with them.

The Meaning of Fireproof: While Gravity was about the loss of true love, Fireproof is about surviving betrayal. It's a complaint - I was better off the night before I met you - but it's also much more. The sound isn't just angry. It's defiant. It's an "in your face, I survived" type of sound and song - you lit the fuse, thought I’d burn too, but you’re playing with a heart that’s fireproof. In the end, her innocence trumps the kind of danger in the darkness written in his soul. He didn't win, he's not invincible. Because the brightest star can light the skies forever. That brightest star is her. She survives, his guilt will haunt him forever - I hope your hands burn when you touch her - and she will never fall for someone like him again - you will always be my worst mistake.

Ask yourself: It's not easy to be fireproof. How can you make sure your heart survives hurt and betrayal?

LYRICS:

I was better off the night before I met you
But I was mesmerized and high on every word you spoke
You were born to run but your poison tongue won’t save you
Cause when you play with fire it all dissolves to smoke

I hope your hands burn, when you touch her
I won’t be the cure for the scars you’ve earned
You lit the fuse, thought I’d burn too
But you’re playing with a heart that’s fireproof

Turn the whites behind those eyes
But I can feel it (I can feel it, I can feel it)
The kind of danger in the darkness written on your soul
If the brightest star can light the skies forever (forever)
How could you ever think you were invincible?

I hope your hands burn, when you touch her
I won’t be the cure for the scars you’ve earned
You lit the fuse, thought I’d burn too
But you’re playing with a heart that’s fireproof
I watch your flames rise, destroy your alibis
I should have warned you
You’re playing with a heart that’s fireproof
No more games, can’t escape
You will always be my worst mistake
Gasoline, on your grave
Goin’ down in flames, goin’ down in flames, goin’ down in flames

No more games, can’t escape
You will always be my worst mistake
Gasoline, on your grave
Goin’ down, in, flames

I hope your hands burn, when you touch her
I won’t be the cure for the scars you’ve earned
You lit the fuse, thought I’d burn too
But you’re playing with a heart that’s fireproof
I watch your flames rise, destroy your alibis
I should have warned you
You’re playing with a heart that’s fireproof

You’re playing with a heart that’s fireproof.
