Magnets - Disclosure ft. Lorde

The Experience: Though this is Disclosure's song, Lorde pretty much takes over in Magnets. Lorde's soft and smokey vocals fade and rise with Disclosure's synth and slow beat. Lorde's sophisticated lyrics describe letting magnet-ism take over while the music keeps pace with her.

The meaning of Magnet's Music Video: Lorde starts white-clad at a party, taking a man off another girl as the lyrics describe. The meaning of the lyrics is how Lorde's mind is on what's happening and what will happen, even when she lets her body take over. The video shows the same:  even in passionate kissing, Lorde's mind's always on how this won't last, but we're dancing past the point of no return.
His cheating on the other girl with Lorde ends abruptly [no spoiler, I won't say how] when her actions catch up to her thoughts: on the line never really thought we would make it, the relationship of secret affairs and passion comes apart... equally passionately, with a black-clad Lorde and the same swimming pool.

The meaning of Disclosure's Magnets' flickers in one line: I felt melting magnets, babe, the second I saw you. The single Magnets describes a girl feeling attracted (magnetically, of course) to the boy she sees as face from heaven.
Then Lorde's lyrics take us inside her head as she lets the magnetism take over. She guesses she's winning him off another girl: I was wondering 'bout you and that girl, she your girlfriend?... she don't know.) While she continues to draw him in, she's proud of her own talents - pretty girls don't know the things that I know... And she lets the romancing go on, dancin' past the point of no return...
Part of her knew that things aren't quite right, this isn't a love built to last. Never really thought we would make it. But she kind of let it all happen: never really felt bad about it, and slid into it with let's embrace the point of no return.
Magnets means just letting your body and your feelings go, while your head already knows the end of the story. Maybe Lorde felt there was nothing better to do at the time.

Ask Yourself: Why do I let myself be drawn to loves that won't last? Why do I just let myself slide past the point of no return?

LYRICS:

Never really felt bad about it
As we drag deep from the lie
'Cause I felt melting magnets, babe
The second I saw you through half-shut eyes

Smoke of sunset, off my heart and
He was talking, I was wondering 'bout
You and that girl, she your girlfriend?
Face from heaven, bet the world she don't know

Pretty girls don't know the things that I know
But my way I'll share the things that you want

Uh-oh, dancin' past the point of no return
Let go, we can free ourselves of all we've learned
I love this secret language that we're speaking
Say it to me, let's embrace the point of no return
Let's em-brace the point of no return
Let's em-brace the point of no return

Never really thought we would make it
We be thinking about what could have been
But we've had a record summer, can't turn it down, oh
Now I don't wanna see the envy again

Smoke of sunset, off my heart and
He was talking, I was wondering 'bout
You and that girl, is she your girlfriend?
Face from heaven, bet the world she don't know
Pretty girls don't know the things that I know
But my way I'll share the things that you want

Uh-oh, dancin' past the point of no return
Let go, we can free ourselves of all we've learned
I love this secret language that we're speaking
Say it to me, let's embrace the point of no return
Let's embrace the point of no return
Let's embrace the point of no return

Let's embrace the point of no return
Let's embrace the point of no return
