Alive - Sia

The Experience: You held me down but I fought back loud, but there's a scream inside... Oppression, escape, freedom, and deep scars are the experiences behind Bird Set Free...

Music video: Alive is a powerful survival story that pulls hope from the darkest places. The lyric video goes from black and white to full color as the faceless graffiti artists tell their story. They all wear a Sia wig that's black and white. The colors symbolize their hope and life - white - and the death that lurks in the place they come from - black. Death that could have been their future too. Interesting facts: Hollywood is painted under the place where all the demons go. But I survived is written over a grinning skull giving two thumbs up - you barely survived, and you're still pretty messed up. And alive is painted inside the anguished scream inside the faceless Sia hoodie - you survived but you're still in pain.

The music video follows a lonely young girl dressed in a karategi, as she meditates with all of the bricks she's already broken strewn around her, and then has to get up and abandon the meal she's cooking - something spooked her, and she spends the rest of the video obsessively going through a lonely but very intense kata. Preparing for battle? Watching for danger? Or perhaps just facing her own inner demons - demons no child her age should have...

The Meaning of Alive: Sia describes a hard life. No childhood - I grew up overnight. Loneliness - I played alone. Starved for love - I wanted everything I never got like the love that comes with light. And abused by people who say you'll never amount to anything - did all the things that you said I wouldn't. But in spite of everything, alive. It's no Cinderella story, because the hero isn't perfect or even innocent - I had made every single mistake that you could ever possibly make. It's a real story about hope's triumph in a world that did everything it could to destroy your every hope and dream - I had a one-way ticket to a place where all the demons go, where the wind don't change and nothing in the ground can ever grow, no hope, just lies, and you're taught to cry in your pillow. But I'll survive.

Ask yourself: How can you make the world a better place to live and thrive and grow up in? How can you heal your scars?

LYRICS:

I was born in a thunderstorm
I grew up overnight
I played alone
I'm playing on my own
I survived

Hey
I wanted everything I never had
Like the love that comes with light
I wore envy and I hated that
But I survived

I had a one-way ticket to a place where all the demons go
Where the wind don't change
And nothing in the ground can ever grow
No hope, just lies
And you're taught to cry in your pillow
But I'll survive

I'm still breathing (4x)
I'm alive (4x)

I found solace in the strangest place
Way in the back of my mind
I saw my life in a stranger's face
And it was mine

I had a one-way ticket to a place where all the demons go
Where the wind don't change
And nothing in the ground can ever grow
No hope, just lies
And you're taught to cry in your pillow
But I survived

I'm still breathing (4x)
I'm alive (4x)

You took it all, but I'm still breathing (8x)

I had made every single mistake
That you could ever possibly make
I took and I took and I took what you gave
But you never noticed that I was in pain
I knew what I wanted; I went in and got it
Did all the things that you said that I wouldn't
I told you that I would never be forgotten
And all in spite of you

And I'm still breathing
I'm still breathing
I'm still breathing
I'm still breathing
I'm alive (You took it out, but I'm still breathing)
(You took it out, but I'm still breathing)
I'm alive (You took it out, but I'm still breathing)
(You took it out, but I'm still breathing)
I'm alive (You took it out, but I'm still breathing)
(You took it out, but I'm still breathing)
I'm alive

I'm alive (4x)
