Mark My Words - Justin Bieber

The ExperienceI don't have any proof to offer that I won't fail again, like I have so many times. I don't deserve another chance. But if someone would just offer me one, I would try again...

Music Video: After a run-through of Justin's meltdown and loss of purpose, narrated by himself, the music video cuts to Justin in the desert, standing on a piano. It's the first half of the story that finishes with Purpose, when the tribal dancers - everyone who Justin has inspired - gather around him and that same piano. The two experiences - Justin all alone and down but not broken in Mark My Words and Justin still weary but cared for by the people he's helped in Purpose - are like bookends for everything he wants to say in the whole album.

The Meaning of Mark My Words: The song underlines how hard it is to start over. When you've messed up and you can't offer any proof, any guarantees - my words, that's all that I have. It's hard to convince people that you're for real when your promises ring empty. You need more trust than ever before, and that's precisely what no one wants to risk giving. But if you come through - if like Justin says in his voice-over "if Justin did it" - you can become an inspiration for everyone who wishes they could start over.

Ask yourself: Does everyone deserve another chance? Are you willing to give it to them even when they don't deserve it?

Album: Purpose

LYRICS:

Mark my words, that's all that I have
Mark my words, give you all I got
In every way I will
You're the only reason why
Oh I don't wanna live a lie
Mark my words
Mark my words

So you heard it all before
Falling in and out of trust
Trying to rekindle us
Only to lose yourself
But I won't let me lose you
And I won't let us just fade away
After all that we've been through
I'ma show you more than I ever could say

Mark my words, that's all that I have
Mark my words, give you all I got
In every way I will
You're the only reason why
Oh I don't wanna live a lie
Mark my words
Mark my words
