Don't Let Me Down - Chainsmokers ft. Daya

The Experience: I really thought you were on my side, but now there's nobody by my side. I need ya... When the person you need the most lets you down...

Music video: The lyric video focusing on a specific unhealthy relationship: he's a drunk. She comes home to that. She decides to pack up and leave. But he wakes up, they fight, and she runs out without her suitcase, which he throws off the balcony after her. Flashbacks to the early days of their relationship make the brake up worse. And the helpless despair of a drunk who can't respect the woman he loves is expressed as he stands at the window watching her leave, bottle in a slack hand.

The music video explores the disappointment that a girl - played by Daya - feels when her man isn't worthy. The lyrics underline her need and anguish - I need a miracle, hurry up now, I need a miracle, stranded, reaching out, I call your name. She needs him. The power dance moves make that need even more poignant. She doesn't need him because she's weak or cowardly. She needs him because she needs a miracle. But her plea falls flat - you're not around - because the two men in the video are just too weak to respond. They're portrayed as passive, incapable of reaching out, and simply at the mercy of the music. For the Chainsmokers, that's the problem. Men shouldn't be like that. A true relationship isn't with a man who's a total pushover. It's with an equal who can care and respond and be there. An strong equal who won't ever let you down.

The Meaning of Don't Let Me Down: The Chainsmokers and Daya pinpoint the worst aspect of a failed relationship. It isn't the fact that there's no one to go to. They're normally is, but that's not the point. What hurts the worst is that the one person you should be able to go to, the one person you love the most - they're the problem. That's why it's so easy to lose your mind...

Ask yourself: Is love worth it if you risk failing? If it's so hard to find a true man? Is there any safe risk-free way to love?

LYRICS:

Crashing, hit a wall
Right now I need a miracle
Hurry up now, I need a miracle
Stranded, reaching out
I call your name but you're not around
I say your name but you're not around

I need ya, I need ya, I need you right now
Yeah, I need you right now
So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down
I think I'm losing my mind now
It's in my head, darling, I hope
That you'll be here, when I need you the most
So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down
D-don't let me down

Don't let me down
Don't let me down, down, down
Don't let me down, don't let me down, down, down

Running out of time
I really thought you were on my side
But now there's nobody by my side

I need ya, I need ya, I need you right now
Yeah, I need you right now
So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down
I think I'm losing my mind now
It's in my head, darling, I hope
That you'll be here, when I need you the most
So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down
D-don't let me down

Don't let me down
Don't let me down, down, down
Don't let me down, down, down
Don't let me down, down, down
Don't let me down, don't let me down, down, down

Ooh, I think I'm losing my mind now, yeah
Ooh, I think I'm losing my mind now, yeah

I need ya, I need ya, I need you right now
Yeah, I need you right now
So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down
I think I'm losing my mind now
It's in my head, darling, I hope
That you'll be here, when I need you the most
So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down
Don't let me down

Yeah, don't let me down
Yeah, don't let me down
Don't let me down, oh, no
Said don't let me down
Don't let me down

Don't let me down
Don't let me down, down, down
