Closer - The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey

The Experience: We ain't ever getting older... Don't worry about what comes next, because the present is too sweet...

Music video: The lyric video charts a series of Polaroid snapshot moments lived in the "now". In the music video, Andrew Taggart and Halsey are the ex's who see each other in a hotel bar. After numerous flashbacks to their heavily sex-centered past, Halsey leaves. Taggart follows her out, but once outside hesitates as she looks back at him with sadness... and no desire to retrace her steps.

The Meaning of Closer: Closer is about going deeper and deeper into the present moment - pull me closer in the back seat of your Rover. But that oblivion comes at a price: your Rover that I know you can't afford and the mattress that you stole and you're looking pretty but only in a hotel bar. Both of them have a sad past, but sweet as the moment is, they are getting older. And that's not a relationship that can last: like the songwriters said, "This is not a love song. We wrote this song, is about when you see your ex out looking all sexy do you hoop up with them, and then right after you remember all the reasons why you hate them."

Ask yourself: Your story has a past, a present... but does it have a future? If it doesn't, what kind of a present is that?

LYRICS:

Hey, I was doing just fine before I met you
I drink too much and that's an issue
But I'm Ok
Hey, tell your friends it was nice to meet them
But I hope I never see them again

I know it breaks your heart
Moved to the city in a broke down car
And four years, no calls
Now you're looking pretty in a hotel bar
And I, I, I, I, I can't stop
No, I, I, I, I, I can't stop

So baby pull me closer in the back seat of your Rover
That I know you can't afford
Bite that tattoo on your shoulder
Pull the sheets right off the corner
Of the mattress that you stole
From your roommate back in Boulder
We ain't ever getting older

We ain't ever getting older
We ain't ever getting older

You, look as good as the day I met you
I forget just why I left you, I was insane
Stay, and play that Blink-182 song
That we beat to death in Tucson, OK

I know it breaks your heart
Moved to the city in a broke down car
And four years, no call
Now I'm looking pretty in a hotel bar
And I, I, I, I, I can't stop
No, I, I, I, I, I can't stop

So baby pull me closer in the back seat of your Rover
That I know you can't afford
Bite that tattoo on your shoulder
Pull the sheets right off the corner
Of the mattress that you stole
From your roommate back in Boulder
We ain't ever getting older

We ain't ever getting older
We ain't ever getting older

So baby pull me closer in the back seat of your Rover
That I know you can't afford
Bite that tattoo on your shoulder
Pull the sheets right off the corner
Of the mattress that you stole
From your roommate back in Boulder
We ain't ever getting older

We ain't ever getting older
No, we ain't ever getting older
We ain't ever getting older
No, we ain't ever getting older
We ain't ever getting older
We ain't ever getting older
We ain't ever getting older
No, we ain't ever getting older (yeah)

We ain't ever getting older (yeah)
No, we ain't ever getting older

We ain't ever getting older
No we ain't ever getting older
