Heavy - Linkin Park ft. Kiiara

The Experience: I'm holding on why is everything so heavy... I know it's worth it, but why?

Music video: The lyric video follows a mess of metallic shards that slowly but surely resolve into the faces of a man and a woman. It begins with the mess. It ends with the reason why we hold on through the weight, the messy, the problems, the heavy. That reason? The relationship - a man and a woman facing each other. The fact that someone else chose to make me the center of their universe.

The music video shows both Kiiara and Chester Bennington dealing with their own worst enemies - themselves. I drive myself crazy. As they both try to deal with their own kinds of crazy, things spiral further and further out of control. It's only when Kiiara walks into the men's bathroom - Chester's private place, destroyed by his fight with his own doppelganger - that they both find piece, sitting silently on a floor littered with broken glass. The message: alone doesn't help you deal with the heavy burdens in your life. Letting someone else touch your broken is the only way to carry on.

The Meaning of Heavy: Why is everything so heavy? Why hold on in the first place? Why do you keep spinning around me when I'm not the center of the universe? It's driving me crazy. Linkin Park and Kiiara dance around the answers to questions we all ask. The key is the refrain - holding on - and the beat - melancholy countered by upbeat power. We do hold on. We hold on in spite of the weight. We hold on even if letting go would set us free. Because some one loves us even though we're not the center of the universe. And that love deserves something in return.

Ask yourself: Do you hold on? Or do you choose easy loneliness over the weight of caring about someone else?

Album: One More Light - 2017

LYRICS:

I don't like my mind right now
Stacking up problems that are so unnecessary
Wish that I could slow things down
I wanna let go but there's comfort in the panic
And I drive myself crazy
Thinking everything's about me
Yeah I drive myself crazy
Cause I can't escape the gravity

I'm holding on
Why is everything so heavy
Holding on
So much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down
If I just let go, I'd be set free
Holding on
[Kiiara]
Why is everything so heavy

[Kiiara]
You say that I'm paranoid
But I'm pretty sure the world is out to get me
It's not like I make the choice
To let my mind stay so f-cking messy
I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same

I'm holding on
Why is everything so heavy
Holding on
So much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down
If I just let go, I'd be set free
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy

I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
And I drive myself crazy
Thinking everything's about me

I'm holding on
Why is everything so heavy
Holding on
So much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down
If I just let go, I'd be set free
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy
