Havana - Camila Cabello ft. Young Thug

The Experience: Havana. Ooh na-na... You idolize your relationships, even when deep down you wish you had something so much deeper...

Music video: Doesn't quite achieve the empowering message it ends with, but definitely more thoughtful than the lyrics themselves. Camila Cabello is a nerdy lost beauty, socially inept and lost in her telenovelas. Until one of them ends with the lead actress embracing selfish solitude - I do love you, but I love me more. Disappointed, she heads out to write her own story... which unfortunately reads like a cheap copy of her telenovela world. The ending line - this is dedicated to the dreamers - encourages people not just to dream, but to actually get out and live their dreams. It's a caricature - but who is it of?

The Meaning of Havana: The relationship wasn't enough for her but she still can't get over it - I loved him when I left him. He's perfectly happy with physical - Young Thug's lyrics - but she's divided. Half her heart is daydreaming about him - half my heart is in Havana. The other half isn't, so she clearly wants something more. But is there anything better? She's to nostalgic to try, and not sure that it exists - especially considering that Young Thug's lyrics don't offer much hope for anything deeper from the male side of the equation. Unfair to men? Yes. All too true for many girls? Also - sadly - yes.

Ask yourself: Why would you yearn for something better, if there weren't anything better?

Album: The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving. (2017)

LYRICS:

[Camila Cabello]
Havana, ooh na-na (ay)
Half of my heart is in Havana, ooh-na-na (ay, ay)
He took me back to East Atlanta, na-na-na
All of my heart is in Havana (ay)
There's somethin' 'bout his manners (uh huh)
Havana, ooh na-na

He didn't walk up with that "how you doin'?"
(When he came in the room)
He said there's a lot of girls I can do with
(But I can't without you)
I'm doin' forever in a minute
(That summer night in June)
And papa says he got malo in him
He got me feelin' like

Ooh... I knew it when I met him
I loved him when I left him
Got me feelin' like
Ooh... and then I had to tell him
I had to go, oh na-na-na-na-na

Havana, ooh na-na (ay)
Half of my heart is in Havana, ooh-na-na (ay, ay)
He took me back to East Atlanta, na-na-na (uh huh)
All of my heart is in Havana (ay)
My heart is in Havana
Havana, ooh na-na

[Young Thug]
Jeffery
Just graduated, fresh on campus, mmm
Fresh out East Atlanta with no manners, damn
Fresh out East Atlanta
Bump on her bumper like a traffic jam (jam)
Hey, I was quick to pay that girl like Uncle Sam (here you go, ay)
Back it on me, shawty cravin' on me
Get to diggin' on me (on me)
She waited on me (then what?)
Shawty cakin' on me, got the bacon on me (wait up)
This is history in the makin' on me (on me)
Point blank, close range, that be
If it cost a million, that's me (that's me)
I was gettin' mula, man they feel me

[Camila Cabello]
Havana, ooh na-na (ay, ay)
Half of my heart is in Havana, ooh-na-na (oh, ay, ay)
He took me back to East Atlanta, na-na-na (oh no)
All of my heart is in Havana
My heart is in Havana
Havana, ooh na-na

Ooh na-na, oh na-na-na
Take me back, back, back like
Ooh na-na, oh na-na-na
Take me back, back, back like
Ooh na-na, oh na-na-na
Take me back, back, back like
Ooh na-na, oh na-na-na
Take me back, back, back
Yeah, ay...
Ooh...
Take me back to my Havana...

Havana, ooh na-na
Half of my heart is in Havana, ooh-na-na (oh, yeah)
He took me back to East Atlanta, na-na-na
All of my heart is in Havana
My heart is in Havana (ay)
Havana, ooh na-na

Uh huh
Oh na-na-na...
No, no, no, take me back
Oh na-na-na
Havana, ooh na-na
