Natural - Imagine Dragons

The Experience: You gotta be so cold to make it in this world... When the price you pay is too much...

Music video: The lyric video features the hunter - the red-eyed wolf - and the prey - Red Riding Hood alone in a black crowd of mass produced products of today. Red Riding Hood runs against the current, but in the end she too ends up fading to black. And after a tense face off, she and the wolf go their separate ways. Is she too strong for him? Or too much like him?

The music video follows a woman unsuccessfully attempting to escape lead singer Dan Reynolds' house of horrors - phantasms, monsters, Satan-evoking goat, and cobweb-covered maggot-ridden feast. One series of scenes watches her drowning in a bathtub she never comes out of, and another follows her as she flees the grounds, only to end up buried alive underneath a singing Dan Reynolds.

The Meaning of Natural: Imagine Dragons paints a bleak picture of today's world. Very few hold out against the demands of a world that only seems to give you two choices: hunter or prey. Predator or victim. The song starts out with you at the crossroads: will you hold the line when every one of them has given up and given in? But instead of the anguish growing into hope of Demons, Natural dives into despair. In Demons there is someone who can show me how to escape. In Natural there is a heaven - Will heaven step in? Will it save us from our sin? Will it? But the only answer is a negative: this house of mine - the evil fallen world - stands strong. You're just another product of today. And if you thrive, it must be because you're a natural: heart of stone, coldcutthroat. And the final price you pay is death itself - I'm fading to black, I'm fading... I can taste it, the end is upon us, I swear.

Ask yourself: Is it true that everyone has given up and given in? Do you know someone who hasn't? Can you follow in their footsteps?

LYRICS:

Will you hold the line
When every one of them has given up and given in, tell me
In this house of mine
Nothing ever comes without a consequence or cost, tell me
Will the stars align?
Will heaven step in? Will it save us from our sin? Will it?
'Cause this house of mine stands strong

That's the price you pay
Leave behind your heart and cast away
Just another product of today
Rather be the hunter than the prey
And you're standing on the edge, face up 'cause you're a...

Natural
A beating heart of stone
You gotta be so cold
To make it in this world
Yeah, you're a natural
Living your life cutthroat
You gotta be so cold
Yeah, you're a natural

Will somebody
Let me see the light within the dark trees' shadowing
What's happening?
Looking through the glass find the wrong within the past knowing
Oh, we are the youth
Cut until it bleeds inside a word, without the peace, face it
A bit of the truth, the truth

That's the price you pay
Leave behind your heart and cast away
Just another product of today
Rather be the hunter than the prey
And you're standing on the edge, face up 'cause you're a...

Natural
A beating heart of stone
You gotta be so cold
To make it in this world
Yeah, you're a natural
Living your life cutthroat
You gotta be so cold
Yeah, you're a natural

Deep inside me, I'm fading to black, I'm fading
Took an oath by the blood of my hand, won't break it
I can taste it, the end is upon us, I swear
Gonna make it
I'm gonna make it

Natural
A beating heart of stone
You gotta be so cold
To make it in this world
Yeah, you're a natural
Living your life cutthroat
You gotta be so cold
Yeah, you're a natural

Natural
Yeah, you're a natural
