Happier - Marshmello ft. Bastille

The Experience: I want to see you smile but know that means I'll have to leave... so I'll go... True love puts it's own happiness last...

Music video: The lyric video follows a Marshmello balloon as it drifts through day, night, mountains and forests, and finally comes to rest in the desert, deflated, after the storm. But the face is still happy.

The Meaning of Happier: Marshmello and Bastille offer a deeper more thoughtful look at love and breakups. The norm? You left me and I'm destroyed and you'll regret it. Happier? I realize I'm not the one who will make you happy. And I love you enough to step back and let you go free. That's serious love. Happier follows Bastille's voice through a night of difficulties into the clear morning light that reveals a painful truth: I want to see you smile but know that means I'll have to leave. He's tempted to try and save the relationship - then only for a minute I want to change my mind 'cause this just don't feel right to me I want to raise your spirits. But he realizes that would be for him, not for her - the image of you being with someone else well, it's eating me up inside. He faces that sacrifice. He lets her go free. That proof of his love won't bring her back to him. But it will make her happy. And that's what true love is about.

Ask yourself: Do you love your love enough to put their happiness above your own?

LYRICS:

Lately, I've been, I've been thinking
I want you to be happier, I want you to be happier

When the morning comes
When we see what we've become
In the cold light of day we're a flame in the wind
Not the fire that we've begun
Every argument, every word we can't take back
'Cause with all that has happened
I think that we both know the way that the story ends

Then only for a minute
I want to change my mind
'Cause this just don't feel right to me
I want to raise your spirits
I want to see you smile but
Know that means I'll have to leave

Know that means I'll have to leave
Lately, I've been, I've been thinking
I want you to be happier, I want you to be happier

When the evening falls
And I'm left there with my thoughts
And the image of you being with someone else
Well, it's eating me up inside
But we ran our course, we pretended we're okay
Now if we jump together at least we can swim
Far away from the wreck we made

Then only for a minute
I want to change my mind
'Cause this just don't feel right to me
I want to raise your spirits
I want to see you smile but
Know that means I'll have to leave

Know that means I'll have to leave
Lately, I've been, I've been thinking
I want you to be happier, I want you to be happier

So I'll go, I'll go
I will go, go, go
So I'll go, I'll go
I will go, go, go

Lately, I've been, I've been thinking
I want you to be happier, I want you to be happier
Even though I might not like this
I think that you'll be happier, I want you to be happier

Then only for a minute
I want to change my mind
'Cause this just don't feel right to me
I want to raise your spirits
I want to see you smile but
Know that means I'll have to leave

Know that means I'll have to leave
Lately, I've been, I've been thinking
I want you to be happier, I want you to be happier

So I'll go, I'll go
I will go, go, go
