Marry Me – Thomas Rhett

The ExperienceDo you have any regrets in your life? Chances you should have taken, but never did? That is what Marry Me is about... taking a risk at love.

Music video:
In the video we follow Sam and Ellie through some of the important moments in their relationship. From a girl he sees through the window, to high school best friends, to almost boyfriend and girlfriend, to love he lost as she gets engaged to another man. The end of the movie is heart breaking as he comes to her wedding and gives her back her football jersey as a wedding present; choosing to walk away rather than open his heart to her when deep down that is what she is truly waiting for. Throughout the video there are various moments where he had a chance to open his heart and go after her, but he never does. The video ends with Sam at the same table in the same café where he almost kissed Ellie years before. It seems like a sad ending until Ellie shows up without her “husband” or a wedding ring to take the risk that Sam could not take on his own.

The Meaning of Marry MeThis song is about love that could have been if one of the two parties just took the chance of opening their soul to the other. In fact, Thomas Rhett wrote this song about what almost happened to he and his wife. They were high school friends who did not take the leap and then nearly married other people before calling off their respective weddings and finding one another again.

Ask yourselfAre you willing to risk it all for love? Will you take the leap?

LYRICS:

She wants to get married, she wants it perfect
She wants her grandaddy preaching the service
Yeah, she wants magnolias out in the country
Not too many people, save her daddy some money

Ooh, she got it all planned out
Yeah, I can see it all right now

I'll wear my black suit, black tie, hide out in the back
I'll do a strong shot of whiskey straight out the flask
I'll try to make it through without crying so nobody sees
Yes, she wanna get married
But she don't wanna marry me

I remember the night when I almost kissed her
Yeah, I kinda freaked out, we'd been friends for forever
And I always wondered if she felt the same way
When I got the invite, I knew it was too late

And I know, her daddy's been dreading this day
Oh, but he don't know he ain't the only one giving her away

I'll wear my black suit, black tie, hide out in the back
I'll do a strong shot of whiskey straight out the flask
I'll try to make it through without crying so nobody sees
Yes, she wanna get married
But she don't wanna marry me

But she got on her dress now, welcoming the guests now
I could try to find her, get it off of my chest now
But I ain't gonna mess it up, so I wish her the best now

So I'm in my black suit, black tie, hiding out in the back
Doing a strong shot of whiskey straight out the flask
I'll try to make it through without crying so nobody sees
Yes, she wanna get married
Yes, she gonna get married
But she ain't gonna marry me
Whoa, but she ain't gonna marry me, no
