bury a friend - Billie Eilish ft. Crooks

The Experience: Why don't you run from me? When you realize you're the monster under someone else's bed...

Music video: Billie Eilish is the monster under Crooks bed. But the focus isn't on his fear. Instead, it's all about her tortured soul. Dragged from place to place by inner demons she can't control. Drugged. But never put out of her misery. the video doesn't offer much hope for the monster under the bed. There's pity, but not enough compassion to save her.

The Meaning of bury a friend: In Billie Eilish's own words,“When we made ‘bury a friend,’ the whole album [When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?] clicked in my head. I immediately knew what it was going to be about, what the visuals were going to be, and everything in terms of how I wanted it to be perceived. It inspired what the album is about. ‘bury a friend’ is literally from the perspective of the monster under my bed. If you put yourself in that mindset, what is this creature doing or feeling? I also confess that I’m this monster, because I’m my own worst enemy. I might be the monster under your bed too.” bury a friend embodies essence of a false friend. They drain you: I'm drinkin' you down. They make you fall apart. They bring the pain: step on the glass and staple your tongue. Unless you end it - bury a friend. That's standard unhealthy relationship pop. But Billie Eilish goes further and explores the often suffering heart of that monster. Someone who knows they're deadly. Someone who knows you should push them away. But someone who needs you - I can't say no - even as they toy with ending it all -  I wanna end me - to save you.

Ask yourself: Is there a way to save the monster under your bed without letting it eat you?

Album: When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (2018)

LYRICS:

(Billie)

What do you want from me? Why don't you run from me?
What are you wondering? What do you know?
Why aren't you scared of me? Why do you care for me?
When we all fall asleep, where do we go?

(Come here)

Say it, spit it out, what is it exactly
You're payin'? Is the amount cleanin' you out, am I satisfactory?
Today, I'm thinkin' about the things that are deadly
The way I'm drinkin' you down
Like I wanna drown, like I wanna end me

Step on the glass, staple your tongue
Bury a friend, try to wake up
Cannibal class, killing the sun
Bury a friend, I wanna end me

I wanna end me
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna... end me
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna...

What do you want from me? Why don't you run from me?
What are you wondering? What do you know?
Why aren't you scared of me? Why do you care for me?
When we all fall asleep, where do we go?

(Listen)

Keep you in the dark, what had you expected?
Me to make you my art and make you a star
And get you connected?
I'll meet you in the park, I'll be calm and collected
But we knew right from the start that you'd fall apart
'Cause I'm too expensive
Your talk'll be somethin' that shouldn't be said out loud
Honestly, I thought that I would be dead by now
Calling security, keepin' my head held down
Bury the hatchet or bury your friend right now

For the debt I owe, gotta sell my soul
'Cause I can't say no, no, I can't say no
Then my limbs are froze and my eyes won't close
And I can't say no, I can't say no

(Careful)

Step on the glass, staple your tongue
Bury a friend, try to wake up
Cannibal class, killing the sun
Bury a friend, I wanna end me

I wanna end me
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna... end me
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna...

What do you want from me? Why don't you run from me?
What are you wondering? What do you know?
Why aren't you scared of me? Why do you care for me?
When we all fall asleep, where do we go?
