Fire - Sara Bareilles

The Experience: Someday I, I won't have to feel the cold. But I do now so I'll know what it feels like when I feel fire..Holding out because you want something deeper, something lasting, something that burns mind and soul not just on your chest, tongue and lips...

Music video: A couple dances in a wild metaphor for their intimate relationship... but it's a relationship that dies out. They don't hold on as they slip apart. That's as far as the lyrics go. But the visual epilogue adds something else. She finds him alone, mourning the relationship, and rekindles their romance. Is it because he's not looking for something else to fill the space where she's been staying - he's alone at the bar but he's not drinking? Is he ready to go deeper - mind and soul not just body? Or has she simply decided to settle? We don't know.

The Meaning of Fire: He walks out on her but it doesn't hurt - won't lose much sleep, he never went that deep. Sara Bareilles wants to commit - I held my breath to swim - but you can't commit to someone who's too shallow to catch true fire that comes and stays shallow shores aren't safe enough to dive in. Anyone can fire up chest, tongue and lips -  talk, touch, kissthen this one's just like all the others. But higher flames catch in my mind and my soul. It's worth braving the cold as you wait for authentic love - someday I I won't have to feel the cold but I do now so I'll know what it feels like when I feel fire.

Ask yourself: Do you settle for embers when you could waiting for deep burning lasting flame?

LYRICS:

Door clicks while his wheels start spinning on the pavement
And I go fill the space up where he has been staying
Won't lose much sleep, he never went that deep
Love you? Oh you sweet thing, no, I never said that
Let me hold your ego while you get your bag packed
Don't take this the wrong way
But when a spade shows up I call it by its first name

We were
We were never gonna catch fire
We'd have burned up in the flames
Long before they ever rose up higher
Someday I
I won't have to feel the cold
But I do now so I'll know
What it feels like when I feel fire
Fire

(Fire)
(Fire)

Talk, touch, kiss then this one's just like all the others
But I know all too well that I want deeper waters
I held my breath to swim
But shallow shores aren't safe enough to dive in

We were
We were never gonna catch fire
We'd have burned up in the flames
Long before they ever rose up higher
Someday I
I won't have to feel the cold
But I do now so I'll know
What it feels like when I feel fire
Fire

That comes and stays fire
On blood and veins fire
I've only ever wanted fire
In my chest
In my mouth
On my tongue
In my mind
And my soul
So my lungs can breathe in fire

We'd have burned up in the flames
Long before they ever rose up higher
Someday I
I won't have to feel the cold
But I do now so I'll know
What it feels like when I feel fire
Fire
