Naked - Emily Weisband

The Experience: Does she look better than me naked? I can control and fake everything except who I am underneath it all. Is that inner me lovable?
The Vibe: Sadness.
The Topic: Insecurity.
The Value: Self-worth.
The Tension: You loved and you were loved (love...we made it) vs. He left you for someone else and that leaves you feeling lacking (whatever was missing did you find it?).

Music video: A naked (no explicit shots) Emily Weisband sits alone in the darkness, debating her own worth. In her own words, "This song is about me when I’m by myself in my room believing sh-t that’s just not true about myself. This song isn’t at a house party… this song is in my head. So the video had to be that too. All that day 1 studio performance footage felt right—authentic to what these moments of me comparing myself to the people around me actually look and feel like. Lonely and bare and trapped but still weirdly beautiful and VERY NORMAL."

The Meaning of Naked: We dress ourselves, use makeup, filter our posts. But when all of that is stripped away - when our inner self is stripped naked - who are we? Are we lovable naked? Without the filters? What are we worth? Naked asks those questions: does she look better than me naked and whatever was missing did you find it. But the single doesn't come up with any clear answers. Just the conviction than we should be judged and loved on our own merits and not compared to others.

Ask yourself: Who are you naked?

Album: Identity Crisis - 2019

LYRICS:

[Music video: "Em, this is torturing yourself." "I know." "Like, you can't do this. You're sitting here thinking either one of two thoughts. Either A, 'She's better than me,' and you're belittling yourself. Or B, 'Ok good, I'm better than her,' and you're putting her down. Like that's a lose lose situation." "Yeah I know."]

Comparing myself
Is a dangerous game to play
I'm laying in bed
And it's keeping me awake
Cause I heard you found somebody new
And I saw a picture of you two
I'm going through hell
Comparing myself
And now I'm obsessing over it
And I'm second guessing everything
I'm going through hell
Comparing myself

Does she make love like I made it?
Would you rather hear her say it?
Does she look better than me naked?

[Music video: Here.]

How did you meet
Is your story better than ours?
Cause I'm laying in bed
And it's breaking my broken heart
Cause I heard you found somebody new
And I saw a picture of you two
Looks like you're doing well
I'm comparing myself
Now I'm obsessing over it
And I'm second guessing everything
I'm going through hell
Comparing myself

Does she make love like I made it?
Would you rather hear her say it?
Does she look better than me naked?

[Music video: Like when I'm by myself, like in my room, like my imagination runs wild and I start thinking about everything they're probably doing and it just makes me feel like total sh-t.]

Do her eyes get you like mine did?
Whatever was missing, did you find it?
Does she look better than me naked?
Than me naked
Than me naked
No no no
Than me naked
No no no
No no no no
Than me naked
Than me naked
Than me naked

Would you rather hear her say it?
Does she look better than me naked?
Than me naked
Than me naked

Does she make love like I made it?
Would you rather hear her say it?
Does she look better than me naked?
Me naked
Me naked

Do her eyes get you like mine did?
Whatever was missing, did you find it?
Does she look better than me naked?
Than me naked
Than me naked
Yeah
