Someone You Loved - Lewis Capaldi

The Experience: Now the day bleeds into nightfall... when the people you love begin to die.
The Vibe: Sadness.
The Topic: Loss.
The Value: Love.
The Tension: It's never the same (Still in love with the wife I loved and lost) vs. I let my guard down and then you pulled the rug (But I'm hurt and angry and feel betrayed by your death).

Music video: Music video 1: A heartbeat begins and ends the music video. Only halfway through do we discover it's what the old man is listening to: his deceased wife's. And in a beautiful legacy, it's the same rhythm that beats on in a young mom's chest. His wife's heart keeps her alive. And accompanies the old man as he heads back home with hope and gratitude to keep his love alive even after death.

Music video 2: She leaves a broken Lewis on the pier, and walks off into the gloom. A passer by take pity on him and get him up and going in the opposite direction - she's gone and he has to cope? He tries to turn back to her - another passer by stops him and gets him turned back around. He turns back yet again - first a group of girls, and then the whole street blocks his path. The net effect is deeply tragic. He's broken without her. And also broken if he tries to hopelessly follow after her.

The Meaning of Someone You Loved: The song explores the nuances of loss. An empty hole that needs filled and can't be: I need somebody to heal somebody to know somebody to have somebody to hold it's easy to say but it's never the same. The memories that provide only a very brief respite from the truth: and I tend to close my eyes when it hurts sometimes I fall into your arms
I'll be safe in your sound til I come back around. The tragic novelty of being alone: I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved.

Ask yourself: What will you leave your loved ones to soften the loss of you?

Album: Breach - 2018

LYRICS:

[Music video: wife's heartbeat]

I'm going under and this time I fear there's no one to save me
This all or nothing really got a way of driving me crazy

I need somebody to heal
Somebody to know
Somebody to have
Somebody to hold
It's easy to say
But it's never the same
I guess I kinda liked the way you numbed all the pain

Now the day bleeds
Into nightfall
And you're not here
To get me through it all
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved

I'm going under and this time I fear there's no one to turn to
This all or nothing way of loving got me sleeping without you

Now, I need somebody to know
Somebody to heal
Somebody to have
Just to know how it feels
It's easy to say but it's never the same
I guess I kinda liked the way you helped me escape

Now the day bleeds
Into nightfall
And you're not here
To get me through it all
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved

And I tend to close my eyes when it hurts sometimes
I fall into your arms
I'll be safe in your sound til I come back around

For now the day bleeds
Into nightfall
And you're not here
To get me through it all
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved

But now the day bleeds
Into nightfall
And you're not here
To get me through it all
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved

I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved
