Hard To Forget - Sam Hunt

The Experience: I can't seem to get away from you... Love dies hard...
The Vibe: Nostalgia.
The Topic: Heartbreak.
The Value: Hope... or realism.
The Tension: Falling apart (I'm hurting) VS. Hard to forget (I can't move past the pain).

Music video: The video for Hard To Forget matches the sad rundown vibe of a song that plays like a broken romance on repeat. Everyone person is stuck in their role and their role isn't a happy one. Except for Sam Hunt and the little girl. Sam's an outsider dressed for a much more normal somewhere else. She belongs, but she's a ray of sunshine. Is she his hope that refuses to die? Is she the memory of his love, a memory that refuses to die, but also refuses to catch up with reality? We don't know.

The Meaning of Hard To Forget: Love dies hard. Sam Hunt doesn't deny the hurt and maybe even the guilt - it's a whole lot of hurt I think I know why you've been dragging your feet. But he's surrounded by her - I saw your sister at work I saw your mama at church I'm pretty sure I saw your car at the mall I see your face in the clouds I smell your perfume in crowds I swear your number's all my phone wants to call. We live in a very small world whose size is the number of people we've met. She dominates his. That means love dies very hard. It's almost easier to hope. But that's only good if there's a chance. The sample from Webb Pierce's There Stands The Glass says its much better to just try to forget. And the sad nostalgic sound of Hard To Forget says there's no hope, and no chance of forgetting.

Ask yourself: When and how do you let go?

Album: Southside (2020)

LYRICS:

[Webb Pierce]
There stands the glass
That will ease all my pain
That will settle my brain
It's my first one today
There stands the glass
That-that relieves all my pain
That-that will settle my brain
It's-it's my first one today
Hey

(There stands...)
I saw your sister at work
I saw your mama at church
I'm pretty sure I saw your car at the mall
I see your face in the clouds
I smell your perfume in crowds
I swear your number's all my phone wants to call
(There stands...)

It's kinda funny how I can't seem
To get away from you
(It's my first one today...)
It's almost like you don't want me to

You've got a cold heart and the cold hard truth
I got a bottle of whiskey but I've got no proof
That you showed up tonight in that dress
Just to mess with my head
So much for so long, out of sight, out of mind
Girl you're looking so good, it's driving me out of mine
Aw you're breaking my heart
Baby you're playing hard to forget

(The-there stands...)
Told me to leave all your things
Out on the porch on the swing
You'd come and grab them by the end of the week
It's just some jeans and a shirt
But it's a whole lot of hurt
I think I know why you've been dragging your feet
(The-there stands...)

Ain't it funny how I can't seem
To get away from you
It's almost like you don't want me to

You've got a cold heart and the cold hard truth
I got a bottle of whiskey but I've got no proof
That you showed up tonight in that dress
Just to mess with my head
So much for so long, out of sight, out of mind
Girl you're looking so good, it's driving me out of mine
Aw you're breaking my heart
Baby you're playing hard to forget

[Webb Pierce]
There stands the glass
That-that will ease all my pain
That-that will settle my brain
It's-it's my first one today

You've got a cold heart and the cold hard truth
I got a bottle of whiskey but I've got no proof
That you showed up tonight in that dress
Just to mess with my head
So much for so long, out of sight, out of mind
Girl you're looking so good, it's driving me out of mine
Aw you're breaking my heart
Baby you're playing hard to forget

Aw honey I'm falling apart
You're playing hard to forget
